I have a confession to make. I think a man who knows how to flirt with his own girlfriend is dangerously attractive. And I do not mean only at the beginning, when everything is new and both people are trying to make the best impression. I mean six months later. Two years later. Even when he has already seen her with messy hair, heard her complain about a terrible day and discovered that she sometimes steals the last piece of chocolate. I would love to be with a man who still finds little ways to make me blush. Perhaps he sends me a playful message in the middle of the afternoon. Perhaps he whispers something sweet when we are surrounded by friends. Or perhaps he looks at me across the dinner table as though he has just remembered why he fell in love. I would certainly enjoy returning the favor. I can be tender and romantic, but I also have a playful side. I like the idea of teasing my man, surprising him with affection and occasionally making him forget what he was about to say. As a single woman exploring online dating, I am hoping to find more than someone who simply wants a girlfriend. I want a man who enjoys the feeling of being in love and understands that attraction deserves attention even after a relationship becomes comfortable. A dating site might be where our first conversation begins, but I hope the flirting will not end when we finally meet. Of course, I want loyalty, responsibility and serious intentions. But I also want that delicious little excitement when his name appears on my phone. And if we are still flirting when we are old enough to complain about our knees, I will consider that a rather beautiful achievement. Although I might insist that he catches me before trying to sweep me off my feet!
